Today we traveled through County Donegal, stopping at Glenveagh National Park with a castle of the same name situated on a mountain lake. We crossed over into Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom), where the currency is pounds instead of euro and the speed limits are in miles per hour instead of kilometers per hour.

Our first stop along the Antrim Coast Road was Dunluce Castle, a picturesque castle ruin on a cliff overlooking the sea.

Next we stopped at an amazing natural wonder, the Giant’s Causeway (see the link for the legend behind the name). This strange geological formation consisted of over 40,000 geometrically shaped rock columns created by volcanic activity that cover the landscape and disappear into the sea.

We made an unplanned stop at Bonamargy Friary, an old church dating back to 1485 that we passed just off the road, before reaching our stop for the night, Culentra House in Cushendall. The car we had been following for an hour turned out to be a couple from England staying at the same B & B, and we talked with them over tea before heading to bed.
